As a yoga teacher, I feel like I'm pretty "grounded" with my wants, desires, dreams and goals. But oftentimes, I feel a little bit like I'm floating out on a raft without a paddle. Particularly, in the past three years as I'm floundering with raising a teenaged son, growing my business, and writing a book!
Two years ago, I agreed to teach yoga at my friend Regena Garrepy's "Bye Bye Good Girl Getaway" in Cancun, Mexico. I booked my ticket with the mindset that I'd sit on the sidelines as a casual observer as she inspired other women from all over the country.
Instead, upon Regena's invitation, I jumped in (off my meandering raft, and into the warm Gulf of support). Five days of sincere self inquiry, gentle risk taking, journaling, meditating, and taking part in a life-changing empowerment ritual, I came back renewed! The whole weekend was full of crazy synchronicity, powerful conversations and frikin' awesome like-minded women from around the country who became fast friends.
I taught sunrise yoga in a setting I'll never forget... a large grass hut jutting over the ocean! We did the most empowering poses and got crazy and playful all before sunrise. Coffee is welcome on the mat!
The name of the long weekend is now called "Soul Hydration" which is a fitting title for what really happens on this trip. It's not a token self-help retreat. It truly is a big ole drink of agua for the soul.
